Severe weather passed through Northern Delaware on August 7th delivering straight-line wind damage to communities like Hockessin and Newark.  Most of the damage is wind-related.

There are over 40 properties reported to have been damaged. 19 of these homes have been deemed unsafe to enter.

Several faith groups and response groups like UMCOR are working to clear properties and assist homeowners affected by the storm. There has been coordination with State Emergency Management and New Castle County Emergency Management to establish areas of greatest need.

There are several work weekends being planned to help with disaster recovery.  September 15th, 16th, and 17th will be the first of many dates.  There will also be several weekdays being planned to help.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: PLEASE REGISTER, DO NOT JUST SHOW UP TO HELP. Contact Reverend Richard Walton at pastorrichwalton@gmail.com to register and for additional information.

If your church would like to assist in this recovery, both Volunteers and Financial help is needed. Volunteers are needed to assist in clearing the storm damage and Financial help is needed for supplies and to help families affected by the storm. Donations can be sent to: Peninsula-Delaware Conference, 139 N State St, Dover, DE 19901, Attention 2023 Storm Recovery.

Future volunteer dates will be posted on the Northern Delaware Storm Relief page.

Thank You,
Pastor Rich Walton,
Conference Disaster Recovery Coordinator
