Most of SUM support has historically come from individuals, the Peninsula-Delaware Conference, church groups, civic groups and area businesses. Staff includes a full-time Executive Director, a part-time Lazarus Fund coordinator, Children Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant. The Parish Council serves as the governing Board. It is made up of 3 people from each of the eight covenant congregations who serve a three-year term. One of the three people is a clergy representative from the covenant congregation. The Parish Council meets monthly to assure that the overall goals of the organization are being adhered to. The Parish Council is served by sub-committees on finance, personnel, building/property, and fundraising. An Advisory Board is made up of community leaders. SUM is a member agency of United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland.
