Letter from Bishop Marcus Matthews

Dear Friends,

My mother, Mrs. Eliza Matthews, lived a long, full life.  Although her passing is a sad milestone for us, we are grateful for having her with us for so many years.

Words cannot express our gratitude for the many acts of kindness you have shown us during this time.  We have been greatly touched by your prayers, cards, letters, flowers, email messages, visits and contributions in memory of our mother to the Cumberland UMC building project.  It has meant such a great deal to us as we’ve struggled with our loss.  The emotional support you have given us, the meals, and other gifts of your time and energy have sustained us day by day.

We are unable to write individual “thank you’s” to each of you given the great outpouring of support.  Please know that your generosity and thoughtfulness has been a great comfort to the entire family.  Knowing that we were not alone has helped us bear our grief.  Thank you for being there for us.
